It fell off

My Zio patch fell off.

No, really.

Was supposed to be on for 2 weeks.

It was put on my body on Thursday December 10 at 2:00 pm.

On Friday morning at 6:30 I called the 24-hour Zio patch support line and the very helpful man told me what to do to try to get it to stick back on. So I followed his directions, and it stuck for a little bit.

But it fell off on Friday night/Saturday morning. It lasted less than 48 hours. It may have lasted 36 hours.

I called the 24-hour Zio patch support line Saturday morning at 7:30, and the very helpful lady said to mail it in. She asked if, when it fell off, I was doing anything that would result in me sweating excessively, because sometimes they fall off early if a person is sweating a lot because they are exercising a lot.

I told her I was sleeping, and we both chuckled a bit.

We said we we're both going to call my doc's office as well as the hospital on Monday morning and let them know.

Because this is exactly what I need to deal with.

Just one more thing...right?

I called my doc's office, and they are trying to find out answers so they can give me direction of what to do.

When I called the hospital, the schedulers said "well as long as it's was on for 8 hours, they can get a pattern."

Really? Then why in the world do doctors order people wear this freaking thing for 2 weeks?

Right now, I don't know if I'll have another one put on.

I'm waiting for the Zio Patch doctors to generate a report, send it to my physician, and then find out what is going on with my heart.

But, I know that the Zio Patch arrived in California because the pre-addressed, postage paid box they provided also had a tracking number on it and I tracked that shit.

Hopefully, they'll have enough data to generate a report.

  1. What happened? Did the new one work? Did it fall off again? Thank you, very little amount of people talk about using the Zio online.

    1. Thanks for the questions. My doc said they got enough data after it being on for less than 36 hours and I didn't have to have a new one placed. I hope this helps you. Good luck!

  2. I'm wearing my 2nd Zio patch in a week. The first one fell off after less than 12 hours (I also had just slept with it overnight; by morning it was 1/2 off). The 2nd one was put on yesterday but tonight -- a bit more than 24 hours later -- it's already separating from my skin. It's wet/slippery under the tape where it had been adhered, and the little gel patches beneath the contacts have turned to soft mush. I was given several additional adhesive patches to re-adhere it, but I haven't even been able to shower with this device yet. It seems to be sensitive to sweating, which is a constant factor in my ongoing illness, but it's also responsible for a lot of the perspiring, too -- the plastic adhesive is incredibly uncomfortable in the way it blocks the skin from breathing. The next big development in this product will be a solution to the sweating/peeling off problem. On a separate note, I'd also like to note that we women have the added complication of having the device adhered to a soft, very squishy part of our bodies -- even a near-clavicle installation still requires the device to move around quite a lot as we bend and sleep on our sides. The device moves with our breast tissue, making it less firmly in place than it might be on a man.

    1. Thanks for the question and sharing your perspective. I'd call the company in California and see if they can help. They were much more helpful for me than my doc's office. But it was also during a weekend. And, yes, having boobs, and the constant moving around that they can do definitely had a contribution to it falling off! I hope you're able to get some answers. Good luck!

    1. My Zio patch was already unattached in the 20 minutes it took us to go from urgent care to our hotel!! Thankfully I got it reattached, only for it to last 4 days

  4. I'm wearing my second one. The first one was a battle to wear and keep on. Fell off in less tbs 24 hrs, called Zio and was told how to stick it back on. Only wore it for 3 days. I jokingly told my husband if I send this in and it's not any good I refuse to do it again well guess what? It came back with no data! Lol. And guess what again? I am now wearing a second one and this also came off in less than 24 hours but I did sweat excessively. I didn't want to stop my routine so I continued exercising. I still have two days left and it will probably come off tonight in my sleep. Fingers crossed this comes back with data on it if not game over

  5. Same issue, I went to the Dr's office to have them adhere it to my chest at 4pm. I awoke around 3am with it half off and re-adhered it, then woke up again around 8am and it was off again. I re-washed the area, used an alchohol wipe to clean off any sweat/residue and re-applied it. I called the iRythm support line and was asked a series of questions about the initial application in the doctors office, which was, it was confirmed that it was applied properly. The support person was helpful, but said to just stick it back on. During the couse of my morning, i did some light vacuuming and moving some furniture around to vacuum and it has fallen off again. The adhesive won't stick to my skin at all now. So, less than 24 hours in and it's unusable. Calling support again to have them give me guidance about next steps.

  6. I had mine put on Feb 28 and 24 hrs later it was already separating from my body. I had not had any "events" to log in that time so I have been using strips of medical tape to try and hold it in place. It's now the 6th and I've logged a few events and gone through a few strips of tape. How is this thing supposed to last for 14 days? Once it starts coming off, it becomes very itchy and annoying to keep on. I will be calling the doctor today to see if I have to deal with this for another 7 days.

  7. Mine came off during sleep. I called. Reattached. Flexed muscle.and off it came. Great concept but needs better glue or application. From a.nurse.

  8. I have experienced similar issues with my Zio, it was applied at 4pm June 28th and began to show signs of peeling away from the skin the very next day. I was outside a few hours yesterday and today, I sweat some and it just slide right off. I like the idea of attaching it with medical tape. I will try that.At this point I am keeping it close by and if I feel an irregular rhythm I will stick it on the best I can.

  9. I got my zio on Tuesday, while at my mother-in-laws for dinner, someone noticed it was starting to peel away in the middle, I tried to hold it in place, but it never really stuck back to my skin. Slowly over the course of 4 days it has peeled further and further. I try to re-stick it and it just comes right back off. This morning it was blinking orange and I again tried to restick the part that won’t stay down, 4 days in and I have 10 more to go. I know it’s not ideal, but the last holter monitor with all the wires stayed on better and you could replace the patches if they weren’t sticking.

  10. I had my monitor attached at the DR office on Wed. By Thu after 1 day it was off, Had it reattached at Dr office with skin adhesive. 1 day later it was off. I used waterproof bandaid to hold in place. Did not work. Now I am using waterproof adhesive tape to hold it in place and I'll see if it last a day or longer.

  11. Mine just fell off after 1 day from sweating and I taped it back on with paper tape. I had to do this last time a wore one 6 months ago after the edges started peeling up. Breast tissue and exercise is definitely a problem with this device. And they are so itchy I can't stand it.

  12. Mine lasted 36 hours and now has various amounts of tape holding it on. I will take it off tonight, clean everything and put it back. Great idea, poor adhesion. he holter I had before was hopeless as the batts ran out after 24 hours.

  13. Mine fell off in less than 24 hours. I played golf and it came off at the 5th hole sue to sweat. The adhesive was no longer sticky.

  14. I got mine 7/12/19 at 11am woke up the next day with it flashing I thought it was red however it might have been orange just pressed firmly and the flashing stopped. No I used medical tape to keep it on let’s see how this works.

  15. Mine has come off a few times in the past 2 weeks but never flashed. It's probably a dud. I'm thinking anyway.

    1. Did yours turn out to be a dud? Mine fell off after days but it was NOT flashing orange. Until i pushed the button. I'm going to be real frustrated if it wasn't collecting data the entire time.

  16. Mine fell off after barely four days. I don't know about other ladies but I don't have much flat real estate between my clavicle, boob, and armpit. Also, the adhesive horribly irritated my skin!

  17. I had a zio xt put on aug 7 it came off on the 8th,the 9th,and the 10th when it came off on the 11th I used some Leukotape P Sports Tape to put it back on. We use it in backpacking for blisters on our feet and the tape stays on for weeks even with wet feet from fording streams. its hell to get off (rubbing alc and some time). maybe they will get the message when I send it back compleatly wrapped in Leukotape.

  18. Mine came off after 36 hours, but I did run a 10k and sweated alot. iRhythm tech told me to reapply it, but it still keeps coming off, so now I'm holding it on with climber's tape.

  19. The Zio simply has a defective design. The electronics may be good, but the winged tabs of adhesive are simply a joke. Mine lasted a whole 8 hours before falling off in bed. I took a careful shower the next night and it fell off completely simply because I bent over.

They need to cover the entire device with a 5”x5” adhesive sheet like they cover IVs with.

    Fed up.

  20. I agree that when you sweat the patch just wears off I actually took off from work and missed one and a half days because the lady that applied it to my body told me I had to give it 24 hours before I can shower so I missed almost two days of work to get it installed and then let it adhesive itself good is what I was told and then after I went to work after 24 hours 7 hours later it's falling off again the first one they put on I didn't get it wet but I started sweating and it lasted maybe eight hours there's a definite problem with your skin sweating if you want to use this product you must remain indoors in a cool environment for it's not going to work and I'm glad that we both figured that out by reading this stuff together but why don't the people that sell the device give you that recommendation it's because they want that $360 and I've gone through two of them

  21. Horrible. It didn't last one hour on me. My skin was cleaned..i did everything right. If it doesn't last an hour and you can't use tape as they told me not to this is useless. I would like to know how anyone can actually not only wear this in the middle of summer but take a shower every day and have this stay on. ..sorry .never going to happen. I'm more annoyed now that the episodes i feel would have been caught if it were on today as i felt it and they don't happen that often. They offered to send me another one but at this point i don't see anything different happening...this is junk..sorry.

  22. Mine has stuck on pretty well. I've had it on for a week tomorrow and it's hanging on tight and itches. I've have to wear mine for 14 days as well. My Dr told me the two weeks was because what they're looking for doesn't happen all the time, or even daily. They want to make sure they catch what I've been talking about.

  23. I received my Zio Patch and applied it to my body immediately, I had no problem following the directions which were simple. But less than 5 hours later the bottom wing of the patch detached my skin. I called the support hotline. The Rep was very nice and told me to "rub in a circle motion for aprox 2 minutes". She said "this would warm up the glue and it should stick back on". It worked for over night. When I woke up and raised up in bed it separated again. I called back that morning and the Rep asked me what activity was I doing, I said Miss, I slept all night. I did nothing to make it come off. Then I asked, could I use surgical tape. "She said "yes as long as you don't cover button or leads on the side of monitor". I woke up day 2 of having patch on and now my top wing of monitor has detached from me, I am too frustrated. I guess I will call back. Let's see what they have to say.

  24. My patch lasted about 6 days before I had to put sports tape around the edges. I have to change the tape daily. The skin under the winged adhesive is very itchy. I only have 3 more days but want to take it off now. It's a pain and I'm not sure it's even working as theres no lights or anything to assure me. The app is nice for recording symptoms and I like that it doesn't have wires like the normal holster monitor.

  25. I got my patch 2 weeks ago today. I had no problems with it staying on even fter sweating a few times real good. I made sreto keep fanning it or blowing on it to help keep it dry. I also was constantly checking it and rubbing the patches both atthe same time away from monitor to keep it on. I Have had really bad neck and back pain however, from trying to sleep with this thing. I was awake most nights making sure I wasn't pulling it or laying wrong. I was too worried about laying on my sides and bunching it up that I only would lay on my back. Other than that, I ad no problems.
